The trouble with taking a sphere/globe and flattening it does cause some perspective issues. I am given to understand that this is very upsetting to geographers. And there is this Peters World Map that attempts to correct our land allocation story. Here it is:

Which does explain why everything in Europe feels like it’s so much closer together than places in Southern Africa.
It’s because it actually is.
