The Chinese yuan, or renminbi, is one of the last few controlled ‘big’ currencies. Did anyone read that post about the South Africa rand batting above its league? It showed a really bizarre anomaly:

  1. China is one of the world’s largest economies;
  2. It is also (unsurprisingly) one of the world’s largest traders;
  3. But its currency is (relatively speaking) rarely traded.
